I have been to a reputable physical therapy place in Manhattan while trying to avoid surgery for torn menisci. Without going into too much detail, I can only say that it was an OK experience, because even though people were nice, each therapist was often working with 3 patients at a time. I was pretty much excercising by myself, which made it feel like a waste of time coming all the way to the clinic when I could just do it at home. Needless to say, my condition worsened and I had to undergo surgery.
After surgery, I took a day with my husband to visit several PT clinics. I really wanted to find one that would help me best. I was looking at the equipment (I had a list of techniques my doctor wanted the therapist to apply), office atmosphere, and knowledge of the therapist. It was a really wise decision to visit the offices, because they were all so very different (some places were outright intimidating)! I visited 7 places in Jersey City and Hoboken, and chose 2 to consider, Liberty being one of them. In the end, I decided on Liberty because of its proximity, and because I could tell from my encounter that Chitra was very knowledgeable, friendly and loved what she was doing. I am very happy I made that decision!
Chitra helped me recover my muscle strength, showed me multitude of different excersizes, used a lot of different techniques with me (I especially liked the electrical therapy to reduce swelling, it was very relaxing) and answered all of my questions, often citing research. She is very up to date on the latest studies and techniques, which I liked. She is also very passionate about her profession and is constantly upgrading her clinic. Best of all, she worked with me 1:1 the whole time. Not only was that very helpful because she would correct me if needed, but she would add something new every time. This made it both interesting and challenging. This experience was far better than in the previous physical therapy clinc. I would recommend Chitra to anyone needing physical therapy, and I am happy that I discovered her in case I or my family will need a physical therapist in the future.
